nomad hat

The new Interweave Knits is available, and it's a good fall issue filled with lots of interesting sweaters. I really want to make the Tangled Yoke cardigan. I'm pleased to be a part of the issue. My scarf hat pattern renamed more poetically Nomad Hat is featured in the Minimalist Knits section.

Just for fun, I thought I'd show you the sketch for the design submission. Occassionally, I get asked about what goes into a submission. I'm not sure if this is the right way to do it, but so far it's been working out. This particular design changed a bit from the original idea because the weight of yarn went from dk to bulky and from two colored stripes to one color textural stripes. I think the garter/stockinet stripes on the hat look great (oops if I do say so myself). Blogging is funny that way, I find myself feeling like such a show-off.

You know what, I was *just* going to write you about the hat, whether you posted about it or not, and there it is! Congratulations! I love this pattern...I think my entire family (2 sisters + mom) will be getting nomad hats for Christmas, plus one for me. (I will make sure you see photos.) I love the textural stripes.

Don't feel like you're showing off, it's your blog--it's Show and Tell! (When I saw the pattern in IK, my first thought was, hey, I know her!!)

It's not showing off, it's sharing. And thanks so much for doing it! I love the sketch. Did the design change because IK wanted a change or was it an evolution on your part?

Yes thanks for sharing the sketch and I'd love to hear the answer to Connie's question too!

Kat, I love your sketches and I think they are pieces of art unto themselves.

Your original vision would still make for a pretty great project, even though I love the IK version.

Connie and Gudrun: The changes were requested by the editor.

Carlene: ooh I'm so pleased you're planning on knitting this hat....and yes i would love to see your finished projects.

Marnie: you're too kind! I did make one as originally intended. I'll look for a photo of it.

Love your original concept too. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for showing the sketch! I'd love to see the original knit, too. It's interesting, how a finished thing can evolve (or not) from its original concept.

Thanks so much for sharing your sketch! It's a lovely extension of your art and allows great insight into how you design. I'm with everyone else- I look forward to seeing your original knit up hat.

Oh Stop It You--If you don't feel good about your own work--well who will--I love it -a hat and scarf all in one--perfect.

Just wanted to let you know that your pattern inspired me to buy the magazine for the first time. What a great idea you had! I love it. Wonderful blog, too!

Aawhh! I'm so impressed.
I was just admiring this pattern in the magazine the other day and didn't even notice it was your design (sorry!)
How great to see your submission sketch too. I love looking at sketches. Thanks.

So interesting to see a project from start to finish! I love it!
No, not showing off at all! I believe that is what blogging is all about....sharing to inspire!
Thanks for showing! :)

Hey publishing patterns is great and you are no show off. I for one really appreieate the peek into the submission process.

Oh yes, one of the best parts of having a blog and reading them, all the details :)

Love the sketch, esp. the butterfly! It's like she's thinking of Spring and Summer, thinking warm thoughts as she bundles up.

About the naming...

How does the naming of the pattern work? Do they collaborate with you by sending a list of choices and you then pick one? There must be some kind of marketing magic that happens with naming it, I would imagine :)

Hmmm...

Thanks for sharing your sketch book and I hope we get to see more!
